Restaurant 198
About This Spot
Restaurant 198 sits comfortably tucked along Old Columbia Pike in Burtonsville, welcoming locals and wanderers alike with an inviting, laid-back vibe that’s both familiar and quietly refreshing. Walking through the door, you instantly sense a spot where time moves at a gentle pace—where conversations unfold easily and the hum of daily life blends with the clink of glasses and the aroma of dishes made with care.
This is a place thoughtfully tuned to the rhythms of the neighborhood, perfect for those mornings when you’re lingering over coffee and cinnamon-spiced French toast, or evenings spent sharing plates and stories with friends and family. The atmosphere balances homey warmth with a touch of creativity, evident in the way familiar American flavors show up with unexpected twists—like a cheesesteak with a playful name or plant-based delights that feel satisfying rather than simply an alternative.
Here, food feels like a conversation starter. The menu offers a range of satisfying options crafted to suit diverse tastes and moments: from bright, fresh nibbles that kick off a casual gathering to hearty dishes that linger long after the last bite. Smoothies and thoughtfully mixed cocktails add to the experience, inviting guests to settle in just a little longer. Meanwhile, families find a welcoming embrace—whether through attentive service that makes busy mornings easier or a tucked-away play area that lets little ones be themselves while adults regroup.
Beyond the plates, it’s the genuine human moments that linger. Staff who seem to know their regulars and newcomers equally well; families arranging local events that feel as much about connection as about food; and the subtle pleasure of finding a place where simple, honest intentions shape the experience more than any rush or pretense.
Restaurant 198 is a quietly distinctive American neighborhood table—a space where ingredients, atmosphere, and care come together with subtle confidence to make each visit feel both comfortable and worth remembering.

Oh. My. Freaking. GOODNESS! Every. SINGLE. Thing is absolutely delicious! Stopped by for breakfast while waiting for my son to get twists in his hair at the amazing Sefa Salon down the street. BEST DECISION THIS MORNING! Thought I was getting the nachos just as of quick appetizer to taste and then box up to save for later. Nope. The nachos were next level delicious! I’ve never had nachos with such flavorful, black beans and such well done queso…the guac and salsa were perfect and the chips too. And I love that they took the time to LAYER the cheese and toppings throughout rather than just add them on top like most places do and you end up with so many nachos that don’t get toppings. Does layering make every bite flavorful! My “quick taste” turned into a full on wolfing down, which is why so much was eaten before I took the picture. The breakfast was delicious too. How do you make shredded hashbrowns this flavorful? Somebody is doing something right in the kitchen!! Oh and the bacon is the thick cut nicely smoked good kind. This place is a gem that many people may already know about. I got something from here probably about a year ago, but I got it to go. Sitting down for the full experience as well worth it. Highly recommend.

You can tell that the food was made to order and they use fresh ingredients. The wings and the Philly cheesesteak were delicious. I ordered the super smash burger and it was pretty good but it was just too sweet for my liking. They have a pretty good selection for adult beverages. We tried the orange crush and it was really good but it was on the strong side, which we were good with. What I really liked about this place was the fact that they have a small playing area for the kids. It really helped with our 2,4, and 6 year old kids. We will definitely be back next time we’re in the area again.

Restaurant 198 is quickly becoming a family favorite. It’s got an amazing selection of plant-based foods. The meatless enchiladas and vegetarian empanadas are so good. It’s also a wonderful spot for families with little kids. The play area keeps kids entertained and the staff are all really friendly and great with kids. We also just used Restaurant 198 to cater a family event and it was wonderful. People loved the food and the prices are very reasonable for catering.

The food was excellent. The omelets are French style. The hot and spicy was medium spicy and quite good. The strawberries and the Cream waffle was covered with fresh strawberries. It brunch, so we also had cheese dip with blue chips. Also quite good.

My first time to Restaurant 198 was a great experience. The staff and our waitress was very attentive. The menu offered a variety of options on appetizers and entrees. My focus was for breakfast. I had avocado toast which came with eggs any style, and a choice of side salad or hash browns. I also had a churro espresso martini. The presentation was great, and my meal was delish. My drink was good too. It came with two mini churros. I look forward back soon, as they have karaoke night, and other events/specialsp throughout the week.

Came here for brunch with my mom and sister. Hot chocolate was just what I needed. My sister ordered the pancakes which she throughly enjoyed (as evidenced by her clean plate at the end of the meal). Mom ordered the steak and eggs, couldn’t tell her reaction but she seemed to be content. I had I think the chorizo omelette, don’t know if that’s the official name but it was alright 7/10 but I probably wouldn’t order it again. Empanadas were pretty good, 8/10. Nice atmosphere, great service.
